Recommendations are far more powerful than endorsements (it’s not quite the same but it’s a little like the difference between a “Like” and a thoughtful comment made on your Facebook profile). Social proof is a huge thing in the online world. Sometimes the only way you can get outsiders to trust that you can do what you say you can is for others to indicate that.

To be honest, not everyone understands what the skills endorsements are for anyway. But if you can get an ex-colleague or client to provide a recommendation, that can be a big positive.

Education

Research has shown that completing the ‘Education’ section of your profile drives 10 times more views than profiles without it.

So, it’s important to fill out this section. If anything, it’s a networking opportunity with alumni from any institution you studied at. Take this opportunity to outline your degrees, certifications and qualifications. Again, it shows your expertise.

If you don’t want to “age” yourself, think about omitting the dates you attended the institution. We may be in a more accepting work environment than previous decade, but age discrimination still exists. If that is a concern for you, you don’t have to offer up all the information.
